That way I feel better about accepting the things that will affect my running (weather, walking, the aforementioned terrible food, crowds) that I cannot change. Rather, I set my expectations upfront about what the weekend is all about, which is hanging out with family & friends, riding some rides, eating terrible theme park food, and doing a little racing on the side. However, that doesn’t mean I phone it in. I’ve always said the Dopey Challenge is just going for a run with much more interesting scenery. Not to mention, it’s not like you’re going to be sequestered in your hotel room between races. That’s not to say you can’t PR, but c’mon, we’re talking four straight days of progressive mileage, in Florida. But, here’s what I can say for Dopey, the sooner you relent to the fact that the Dopey Challenge isn’t designed for PRs, the better your training mindset will be. Now, since there is only one of me and thousands, hundreds, tens of you reading this, I can’t speak specifically to training plans, as every runner’s goal is as unique as they are. So, you took out a second mortgage and secured your entry to the race(s), you’re probably thinking to myself, “Shit. If you made it through, and if you’re reading this I assume you have, congratulations! You are about to become a small band of misfits who would rather spend their vacation getting up at 1a for four days in a row and trudge mindlessly (yet, triumphantly) throughout Disney’s vacation kingdom. Some argue if you can withstand the sign up process the rest is all downhill. If this is your first Dopey Challenge, the first arduous task is actually registering for the darn thing. So, I’ll do my best to share with you how to prepare, what to expect, and some tips to make your weekend a little more Dopey, and less Pain-y (er, he’s one of the dwarves, right?). Well, until runDisney changes things again.

So, that’s already a win for you!Īs someone who has participated in every Dopey Challenge (save for that pesky COVID period), as well as over 100 runDisney races, I think I’ve gotten to a good point of experience to share with you some key race details. But, it is insightful, and dare I say entertaining? Plus, with my blog there are no annoying ads every two seconds.
